Thirty-four degrees outside, eighteen in the room, and a fan pointed straight at the bed. Almost every long-stay traveller gets this at some point — a dry throat, a blocked nose, a cough that hangs on. It usually clears in a few days with the right care and one small change to the air-con setting.
What actually helps
Set the air-con to 24–25°C and stop the flow pointing directly at the bed.
Drink more. Air-conditioned air is very dry and it dries the throat all night.
Throat and nose care, started early rather than on day three.
A hot drink before bed does more than people expect.
Fever over several days, breathing difficulty, or a young child affected: see a doctor, and we'll tell you where.
